Primitivo Ramos
Primitivo “Primo” Edralin Ramos of Hanamaulu passed away at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital on February 20, 2014, at the age of 88. He was born in San Esteban, Ilocos Sur, Philippines on November 27, 1925, and retired as a laborer with Lihue Sugar Plantation.
Preceded in death by his wife, Maria; granddaughter, Michelle Ramos and grandson, Crescencio Ramos Jr.
He is survived by five sons, Reynaldo (Marjorie) Ramos, German (Mila) Ramos, Samuel (Renee) Ramos, Crescencio “Cres” (Becky) Ramos, Jerry (Emily) Ramos; one daughter, Gladdy (Angel) Palaroan; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Church with viewing from 8:00 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Lihue Cemetery.
Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Ramos family with arrangements.
Nikolo Okami
Nikolo Kamuela Heolaopomaika’i Okami of Waldorf, Maryland passed away on February 27, 2014 at the age of 30. Born on January 21, 1984 in Anahola he was a graduate of Kapaa High School and a 1st Lt. with the Army National Guard and Social Media Manager with 3MP Inc.
He is survived by his parents Samuel and Loreen “Kilinoe” Okami of Anahola; brothers, Edward (Carolyn) Okami of Waialua O’ahu; Pastor Moki (Verna)Okami of Lihue; Elton Robert Russell of California; sisters, Shawna (Kimo) Rosehill of Kalihi, O’ahu; Liann Lokelani (Cory) Lofton of Waldorf, Maryland; 9 nieces and nephews; 9 grand nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother Rose Lum of Kuliouou, O’ahu, auntys Christine and Ariana Lum of Kuliouou, O’ahu and Nickie (Raymond) Dahlke of Chesapeake, Virginia; numerous cousins and extended family.
Friends may visit with the family Saturday, March 15, 2014 at St. Catherine’s Church, Kapa’a, Kaua’i with visitation from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. mass to follow at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers monetary donations would be greatly appreciated.
Jason Doi
Jason Doi of Kalaheo, Kauai passed away on February 9, 2014 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 64. Born on October 5, 1949 in Lihue, Kauai, he was a Certified Inspector with Terminix.
Predeceased by his parents, Albert and Kikue Doi, and brother, Gerald Doi; and survived by his brother, Randall (Jean) Doi of Kalaheo, and nieces and nephews.
Private Services were held at Lihue Hongwanji.
Arrangements were handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Dean Petro
Dean Joseph “Deano” “Coach” Petro left this life peacefully on Friday, March 7, 2014. Deano was home making breakfast when He decided it was time for him to go.
Deano was born March 31, 1955 in New York City. He was raised in Gardena and the sunny South Bay surfing communities of Hermosa and Manhattan Beach, California.
Deano graduated from Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, CA in 1973.
Deano followed his lifetime love of surfing to Kauai in 1974 and attended Kauai Community College.
Deano worked in construction and was a world class mason. He founded Petro Construction in 1989. Deano’s work can be seen from the North Shore of Kauai to the Westside restoration of Waimea Foreign Church. One project Deano was most proud of was the restoration of Queen Emma’s Summer Cottage and the Allerton Estate in Lawai Kai.
Coach Petro had a 14 year career as an offensive line coach for Kauai and Kapaa High Schools. This resulted in 6 KIF Championship seasons respectively.
Coach was an inspiration to many young people on Kauai and provided numerous jobs for former players and young men which led to life- long careers.
Deano was preceded in death by his beloved father and mentor, Joseph Anthony Petro.
He is survived by his daughter, Alexandra “Ali” Mariko Petro, and his son, Michael Kaleo Petro, his mother, Marie Ryan Petro, his sister, Merideth Marie Petro, his hanai brother, Ryan and Kathy Baniaga, his beloved dog, Tony, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, neices, nephews, and extended famiglia.
Deano was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, March 14, 2014, 10:00 am at St Raphael’s Catholic Church in Koloa. Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Reception to follow.
Ellen Hogan
Ellen Mary Hogan of Kalaheo, Kauai passed away on February 19, 2014 at home at the age of 92. Born on September 26, 1921 in Long Beach, CA, she was a full-time homemaker. She grew up in Kaimuki and attended Sacred Heart Academy.
Predeceased by her husband Patrick Joseph Hogan, son Patrick Hogan, parents John Allen and Ida Lillian Williams, and brothers, Martin Wiiliams and John Williams.
She is survived by her son, John Hogan of Kauai; daughters, Maureen Hogan of Honolulu, Diane Bushman of Santa Monica, CA, and Lynne Hart of Kalaheo, HI; sister, Ruth Williams of McMinnville, OR; grandchildren, Tyna Renee Mildrexler of Oregon, Tara McPherson (Sean Leonard) of New York, Grant Bushman of California, Ananda (RaeAnn) Hogan of Hilo, HI, Sean Hogan of Kalaheo, HI, and Keoni Hogan of Kaneohe, HI; great-grandchildren, Maile, Malia, and Hoku Mildrexter of Oregon, Caleb Terno Hogan of Hilo, HI, Koa Alan Hogan of Kalaheo, HI, and Ronan Vega McPherson-Leonard of New York; and numerous cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on March 13, 2014, 9:00 am, at the Holy Trinity Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at The National Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl).

Eura Sapir
Eura Hannah Makuaole Sapir of Kekaha, Kauai passed away on February 18, 2014 at home at the age of 78. Born on June 11, 1935 in Waimea, Kauai, she was a Front Office Manager with Fernhurst YWCA.
Preceded in death by her parents Kekua Kuapahi Makuaole and Eva Adolpho.
She is survived by her sons, Dexter (Pam) Tamura of Kahalui, Maui, Brian Gasper Sr. of Waianae, HI, Glenn Gasper of Makaweli Valley, Jaffrey Gasper of Waianae, HI, and Richard (Carla) Sapir of Portland, Oregon; daughter, Denise Aldene (James) – K. Leopoldo of Wainae, HI; brothers, George Makuaole of Wainae, HI, and Kealoha (Rosalie) Makuaole of Waimanalo, HI; sister, Gracie Acain of Kekaha, HI; lifelong Friend, Matilda Nawai Warkentin of San Jose, CA; 19 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, March 15, 2014, 10 am at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai. Service will begin at 11 am.

Kimberly Hocson
Kimberly “Aunty Kim” Pualani Hocson of Anahola passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on March 2, 2014, at the age of 55. She was born in Lihue, Kauai on October 17, 1958, and was a Shift Manager at North Shore General Store.
Preceded in death by her parents, Domingo Escalante and Ruth Luka Waiwaiole; granddaughter, Kaiyah Alani and brother, Frank Escalante.
She is survived by her daughter, Lea “Kanani” (Arley Jr.) Alani of Hookena, Hawaii; god son Nick Kaneakua; long time companion, Lonny McClure; five grandchildren, Jamin Lopes, Kymani Alani, Arley Alani III, Koloe Alani, Karley Alani; hanai mom, Anne Morris; step-dad, Alfredo (Kathleen) Asuncion; step mom, Verna Escalante; siblings, Alfred Kimo Asuncion, Raymond (Sarah) Asuncion, Jan (Aloha) Kaleimamahu, Hester Franko, Maxine Cutter, Robert Escalante, Maximo Escalante, Moroni Escalante, Angela Escalante, Moses Escalante, Raylene Garcia, Donna Mae Kuhns; numerous aunties, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Anini Beach Park beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Dr. Lorie Call
Dr. Lorie Phillips Call of Princeville passed away at home on February 28, 2014, at the age of 70. She was born in Glendale, California on September 25, 1943, and a Doctor of Chiropractic with practices in San Clemente, California and Camarillo, California.
She is survived by her husband, Lynn Call of Princeville; daughters, Dalana Rayne of New Mexico, Kathie Ensign of Nevada, Karen (David) Mortensen of Colorado; son, Shawn (Stephanie) Ensign of Kauai; 7 grandchildren and sister, Pauline (Howard) McCosh of Utah.
Family and friends held a celebration of Life for Lorie at Hanalei Pier.
Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Judith Fujita
Judith Fujita passed away on March 1, 2014 at home at the age of 81. She was born on November 24, 1932.
Predeceased by her daughter, Karen Ramos, parents, Tadao and Akiko Kokata, and brothers, Stanley Kokata and Francis Kokata.
She is survived by her husband Ernest S. Fujita; son, Guy (Judy) Fujita of Waimea, and son-in-law, Erwin Ramos of Hanapepe; daughters, Wallis (Larry) Fernandes of Kapaa and Lisa (Elmer) R. Gubaton of Hanapepe; brother Kenneth Kokata of Oahu, and sister Jean (Take) Nakama of Oahu; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, March 22, 2014, 10 am at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai. Service will begin at 11 am.
