The Kauai Veterans Council launched its year of honoring women in the military — both Active Duty and Veterans — with “A Night at the (Veterans) Museum” gala featuring The Starlighters.
Major General Mary Kay Hertog, retired, was the keynote speaker, noting that in addition to women in the military, spouses of military servicemen should also be honored for the courage and sacrifice they make in their lives.
Johnette Chun, adjutant for the KVC, said the honor will include having all-women color guards, whenever possible, and women speakers at the major veteran observances throughout the year, including Memorial Day, July 4 celebrations and climaxing with Veterans Day and the Veterans Day parade.
