LIHUE — Booth sales for Girl Scout cookies start today and continue through March, or until supplies run out, said Shereen Hoopii, Girl Scouts of Hawaii membership and program service coordinator.
Statewide this year, cookie sales are record-breaking with an estimated 387,000 boxes arriving in Hawaii, states a release from the Girl Scouts of Hawaii.
Girl Scout cookies include eight flavors including Savannah Smiles, Trefoils, Do-Si-Dos, Samoas, Dulce De Leche, Thank U Berry Munch, Tagalongs, and the all-time favorite, Thin Mints. They cost $5 per box.
“This is the only time the cookies are available,” said Hoopii. “This year, one of our new booth sales include the Harbor Mall near the Mariachi’s so visitors aboard the cruise ships won’t have to take a taxi to come up to the office.”
Proceeds from the annual fundraiser go toward Girl Scout activities.
The $800 million business is championed for more than its delicious flavors. The nationally-recognized program helps girls develop goal setting, decision-making, money management, people skills and business ethics.
Hoopii said in addition to booth sales around the island, including the major retail outlets and malls, people can visit www.girlscouts-hawaii.org and download the “cookie locator” app to find where the Girl Scouts are selling cookies.
