PUHI — Kapaa High School tennis swept its series over Island School Saturday during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation matches at the Kauai Community College tennis courts.
Kapaa boys took its series 4-1, dropping its first singles match when Island School’s Davis Huffman got past Kapaa’s Kalani Murakami, 7-6(7-5), 6-3.
The Warriors were pretty comfortable with the remainder of the lineup, getting its third doubles by default.
On the second singles court, Matt Steinohrt overcame the wind gusts to defeat Sam Goldberg, 6-0, 6-0.
Kai Harrison partnered with Wyatt Harrison on the boys first doubles court and won over the Voyager pair of Ian Cowden and James Papa, 6-1, 6-2.
Kapaa’s Justin Fujito-Pascual and Justin Hatchell had solid fan support peeping through the wind-blown screens in their 6-3, 6-1 win over the Island School pair of Francis Green and Andrew Anderton, despite Green making concerted efforts at digging out low balls at the net.
On the girls court, Island School’s Alex Obert defeated Kapaa’s Casey Nakamura on the second singles court 6-2, 6-2. Mabel Kha teamed with Brianna Greip and rebounded to take out Kapaa’s Angelika Questin and Chelsea Ferrer in three sets 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Kapaa’s Kiara Tamayose, who took the make-up win over Kauai Wednesday, continued to roll and defeated Island School’s Michaela Fitzgerald in three sets, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 on the girls first singles.
On the girls first doubles court, the Warriors’ Amber Diaz and Frences May Nono defeated Island School’s Katy Davidson and Julia Randolph-Flagg 6-0, 7-5. The Voyager duo made a strong comeback in the second set but fell short.
Kapaa’s Cassady Yatsko paired with Alana Bauman on the girls second doubles court to defeat Island School’s Whitney Summerhays and Ashley Larkin 6-2, 6-1.
With the win, Kapaa makes the journey to the Waimea High School courts for a 10 a.m. March 29 meeting with the Menehune. No KIF matches are scheduled for March 22 due to spring break.
Island School will travel to the Kauai Lagoons facility on March 29 to take on Kauai High School starting at 10 a.m.
No results were available from the games being played at the Waimea High School courts against Kauai.
