LIHUE — Kapaa pitcher Kalia Kaui scored four times, whacked a pair of doubles and a single and had three RBI to lead the Warriors to a 15-7 win over Kauai High School Wednesday night at Isenberg Park.
Kaui held the Red Raiders to five hits, three coming from catcher Tammie Yoshimori in the Warriors’ final game of the season.
Kapaa opened strong, scoring three runs on one hit as Kauai pitcher Aleigha “Red” Scovel started off shaky on the mound, giving up a 2-run double to Kaui, walking three Kapaa batters, hitting one, but whiffing two in the opening frame.
Aleigha Cummings, Kapaa catcher, was hit by a pitch to get aboard and rounded the paths on wild pitches before scoring on Kaui’s 2-bagger along with Jordan Lopez, who walked and stole second. With no outs, Analeigha Carvalho-Toloai pushed Kaui home on a triple.
Scovel settled down and struck out two to leave three Warriors stranded.
Kauai answered with two runs on three hits. Kahela Nishikawa-Chandler walked, stole second and eventually scored on Yoshimori’s RBI double. Yoshimori crossed on a Mahealani Hirokane RBI single.
Kapaa added four runs on three hits in the second, three runs on one hit in the third, a run on one hit in the fifth before icing the win with four runs on two hits in the seventh inning.
Kauai pushed across four runs in the sixth, highlighted by a Yoshimori triple.
Kauai plays its final Kauai Interscholastic Federation games in a doubleheader against Waimea at the Waimea Canyon Park at 10 a.m. Saturday.
