LIHUE – A 41-year-old Kalaheo man was hospitalized Saturday afternoon after being struck by a car while riding his bicycle along Kaumualii Highway in Kaumakani.
The bicyclist was transported by medics to Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital and has since been released.
The man was riding west on the highway, between Kaumakani and Pakala, shortly before 5 p.m. when he was sideswiped by a Toyota Camry heading in the same direction.
The female driver of the sedan, age 61 of Kekaha, did not report any injuries, according to a county press release.
Officers directed alternating traffic flow on Kaumualii Highway for about 20 minutes to allow emergency crews to respond.
