NIUMALU — A 26-year-old Lihue woman is in stable condition at Wilcox Memorial Hospital after being struck Friday night by a vehicle at the Menehune Fishpond lookout.
The victim was standing next to the passenger side of a Toyota sport utility vehicle at the lookout at approximately 9:55 p.m. when a Toyota pickup truck heading up Hulemalu Road hit her, the county said.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 38-year-old Koloa man, crossed the centerline, drove into the lookout area, struck the victim and sideswiped the Toyota SUV.
The woman sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.
The driver of the Toyota SUV, who was standing near the driver’s side of his vehicle, was not injured.
The driver of the pickup truck and his infant passenger were also uninjured. The crash cause is unknown. An investigation is pending.
