LIHUE — A note referring to a bomb locked down Kauai High School for about a half hour Monday.
Explosive devices weren’t discovered after police swept the property, and students were back to their normal schedule by early afternoon.
Police were called to the Lihue school shortly before noon in response to a note found in a bathroom, said Dara Young, spokeswoman for the Hawaii Department of Education.
The lockdown was from 11:36 a.m. to 12:05 p.m.
The precautionary procedure gave police a chance to do a visual search of the campus. Students and staff were released to an early lunch after it was cleared, according to Young.
“The schools have a safety plan for these types of things,” said Bill Arakaki, Kauai schools superintendent. “Everybody followed procedures.”
The note, according to Young, made a reference to a bomb threat. Details of the note and exactly where it was found weren’t shared pending an investigation.
“It was a brief lockdown and we are asking the media to help us with this because we don’t want to encourage any copycat incidents,” said Young.
