Frances Nelson Frazier, the author of “Halia of Hawaii, A Legacy of Language” who will celebrate her 100th birthday in July, will be represented by her editor-publisher Dawn Kawahara stamping books with a special “Aunty Halia” signature stamp at The Bookstore in Hanapepe 5:30 to 9 p.m. Friday.
Because of her centenary status, Frazier’s “Me ke aloha” stamp was made in lieu of her personal appearance and signing of the memoir, which covers more than 100 years of Hawaii history unfolding during her lifetime.
“It’s an amazing lifetime,” said Kawahara, “since it encompasses Hawaii from Territorial times — with a view that predates even those times — through statehood and continues well past the 50-year anniversary of becoming a state.
Frazier’s memoir tells much of those early days when she could ride a horse over valleys that are neighborhoods of boards and cement now, takes us through tales of her master mariner father and his adventures, her marriage and motherhood, and beyond her witnessed attack of Pearl Harbor, knowing her young, engineer husband was present at the very docks that she saw going up in flames.
The event is happening during Art Walk in Hanapepe at the Bookstore, 3785 Hanapepe Road.
