LIHUE — Kauai faiths join together in prayer Thursday as part of National Prayer Day.
The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation, states a proclamation issued by Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr.
It is that spirit of unity which transcends socio-economic, political, religious and ethnic differences, bringing together citizens at state capitols, county court houses, on steps of city halls, and in schools, businesses, churches and homes to give thanks for our freedoms and blessings, the proclamation states.
About 100 people showed up for the event.
The National Day of Prayer was created by a joint resolution of the United States Congress in 1952.
