PRINCEVILLE — The Vision Van made its first appearance of nine free health-screening events Friday at the Princeville Shopping Center.
“We had about 30 people stop by since we opened,” said North Shore Lion Jerry Moore. “That’s about 10 people per hour and is a very good rate.”
Presented by the Kauai Lions Club, the project got help from Young Brothers and the Legislature in bringing the free events, a project of WE — a hui for health/Project Vision Hawaii, to Kauai for the benefit of the people around the island.
“It’s free and one of the four steps of preventing falls is an annual vision check,” said Rachelle Bachran of the state’s Department of Health during the Older American Month luncheon. “Kupuna should take advantage of the Vision Van and the upcoming Tropic Care Kauai in June to get the free health screenings.”
The Vision Van, accompanied by a health station with Queen’s Medical Center personnel, offers health screenings up to an hour in length.
