PUHI — The Kauai Humane Society presents a summer “Critter Camp” for boys and girls ages 7 to 12 years old. This fun-filled, educational workshop runs from June 2 to June 6. It also offers the same workshop throughout the summer, on June 16-20, July 7-11, and July 28 to Aug. 1. Critter camp is Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., at the Kauai Humane Society classroom, at the shelter, 3-825 Kaumaualli Highway in Puhi.
Each day is themed to offer insights into animal life. On “Dog-gone Monday” the focus is on dog behavior, pet safety and dog training. “Cat Tuesday” offers learning about cat behavior, different cat breeds and cat handling. “Wildlife Wednesday” will spotlight the different wildlife living on Kauai, and learning about how to help shearwater birds. On “Animal Cop Thursday,” a humane officer will share stories and learn how KHS assists animals in need. “Vet Friendly Friday” will have KHS veterinarian Dr. Dawn teaching children about animal medicine and how to identify a sick animal. In addition, there will be arts and crafts, plenty of time handling animals and lots of fun.
Each week costs $150, or each day costs $30. Parents may get application forms online at www.kauaihumane.org or stop by at the Kauai Humane Society office and pick one up.
To register your child (or children), or if you have questions, call Jonny Fisher, KHS Humane Educator, 632-0610, ext. 103.
