LIHUE — Lilian Watari of the Hanalei Bay Resort said she asked the owners for help in order to attain her goal Saturday.
Help she got, and her goal was hit.
Watari was announced the top fundraiser after raising $5,875 for the 36th annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk at the Historic County Building.
More than 2,000 walkers helped exceed the $202,000 goal, with the final total still being finalized.
“As part of Ron Wiley’s 25th anniversary with KQNG Radio Group, and the fact he has been emceeing the walk all that time, the proceeds from the Table 53 fundraiser in the RumFire at the Sheraton Kauai Resort will be designated for the Visitor Industry Charity Walk,” said June Cappiello of the Sheraton Kauai. “There is still time to help while enjoying the fine cuisine and vistas from Table 53.”
The Ron Wiley You Dine, We Donate campaign is in addition to the more than $3,100, representing the February Table 53 You Dine, We Donate campaign, and $13,000 contributed by the Sheraton Kauai ohana to the walk.
“We had 2,000 shirts and they’re all gone,” said Stephanie Kaluahine Reid, spokeswoman for the St. Regis Hotel in Princeville. “This is like last year. All of the shirts are gone which means we had at least 2,000 walkers. This is great!”
David Sosner and Maile Lewis of the Aqua Kauai Beach Resort helped out the event. They distributed prizes, tied up loose ends, and said they are already looking forward to next year.
All proceeds go to Kauai’s nonprofits.
“This is the first year we’ve participated,” said Mi Nei Oliver of the Sheraton Kauai luau. “Everyone had a lot of fun, the food was great. We’ll definitely be back again, next year.”
