LIHUE — After serving four terms as a County Council member, Tim Bynum has fought his share of battles and gleaned some experience along the way.
Among them, he said, are the opportunities he had to work with late Mayor Bryan Baptiste; the often complex environmental issues that he regularly tackles; the economic changes that have happened after plantations on Kauai were shuttered; and the work done across the county to implement its complete streets program.
“I’m proud of the work that I’ve done on the council,” Bynum said. “I think that my experience and my public record demonstrates that I’m focused on the needs of the people who live and work here.”
And that is why the 59-year-old Wailua resident and married father of two said he filed his nomination papers on Wednesday to defend his County Council seat in this year’s election.
“I think I bring experience, perspective and a clear focus on the needs of the working people who live here on Kauai,” Bynum said.
Bynum placed seventh in the 2012 general election after garnering 12,447 of the 64,095 votes cast in that year’s race.
Before he began serving on the County Council in 2006, Bynum served as the program director for Child and Family Service, director of YWCA of Kauai’s Child Abuse Treatment program and director of the Children’s Justice Center of Kauai.
To date, a total of seven people have filed to run for seven seats up for re-election on the Kauai County Council.
The deadline for candidates to file nomination papers is June 3.
