LIHUE – Living healthy is a lifestyle. It takes consistency, thought and most importantly, the right information. That’s why Bethany Hamilton and Dustin Dillberg teamed up to write, “Body and Soul: A Girl’s Guide to a Fit, Fun and Fabulous Life,” that was recently released.
“I’m really excited about this book because I love living a healthy lifestyle and staying extra fit as a professional athlete,” said Bethany Hamilton, Kauai native, author and professional surfer. “I’m excited to be able to share that with today’s generation of young girls who are growing up in this crazy culture. They just need some direction to encourage them to live a healthy lifestyle.”
Body and Soul is a 160-page book written for young girls that concentrates on the physical, chemical and emotional components of living a healthy life. It provides easy-to-read guidelines using interactive formats such as charts, action plans, equipment-free workout routines, goal lists, recipes, and more.
Although the book was written for a specific demographic, it really is beneficial for anyone, said Dustin Dillberg, co-author of Body and Soul and owner of the Pain Free Kauai clinic.
“The book is about learning healthier ways to move and exercise, including information about preventing injuries,” he said. “It also guides through proper responses to stress that many of our youth face today.”
Dillberg, of Pain Free Kauai, has worked with Hamilton as her practitioner and trainer since 2008.
He has helped her address many health goals including corrective exercise therapy, acupuncture, nutrition, and optimizing performance. They have worked through many health concerns, many of which she encountered as a result losing her arm in a shark attack in 2003.
“Bethany has an understanding of her body that is unique. Because she has an imbalance due to her shark attack, she consistently stimulates her body to return to a neutral position. This prevents injuries and allows for peak performance,” Dillberg said. “So she never stops doing her corrective exercises, she makes healthy choices, and that’s something very inspiring. She understands health and wants to influence the health and future of the youth and her wonderful fans.”
Teenage girls will face many situations where they must make decisions that will affect their lives. The book is designed to help them make wise decisions, Dillberg said.
Bethany is committed to a lifestyle that will help her perform her best every day. It starts with waking up, working out, eating right, and time for prayer and reflection. The spiritual side is important, too.
“It’s something overlooked and forgotten in the stress of teen life,” Dustin said.
The book is already enjoying success, and was 29th in sales of Christian teen books on Amazon.
Dillberg works with Bethany at his office and treatment clinic called Pain Free Kauai. Owned and operated by both Dillberg and his wife Kirby, Pain Free Kauai is located in Lihue. Pain Free Kauai is helping people from all over the world achieve “a life free from limitations,” and that’s something Dillberg looks to continue through his work in Body and Soul.
“I’m proud to be able to share and educate through this book,” Dillberg said. “My greatest hope is that everyone who reads it will understand how health is a choice. Through each decision you make you are choosing to be healthier or not, It is that easy. By choosing health you can prevent limitations from later effecting you”
