A pair of free events to help people learn to prepare for disaster on Kauai are scheduled June 18 and June 21 at the Princeville Public Library
“We all know a hurricane or tsunami is in our future,” said Makaala Kaaumoana, executive director of the Hanalei Watershed Hui. “Being prepared is in our best interest.”
Kaaumoana will describe the planning process for a disaster resilience plan for the North Shore of Kauai.
“Hanalei to Haena Disaster Resilience Planning — Are We Prepared?” defines community resilience as the ability of communities to withstand and recover from disasters, learning from past disasters to strengthen future response and recovery efforts.
The June 18 program runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. A one-hour workshop will be held 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. June 21. The workshop is intended to encourage learning more about the North Shore. Updated maps of the North Shore tsunami inundation zones and the district boundaries will be available.
