LIHUE — Proving affordable housing for low-income families has been the mission of the Kauai Habitat for Humanity since 1993.
The weekend of July 11-13 they will conduct special builds and undergo community projects in tandem with other island branches. This push will be in partnership with local businesses, community organizations and government agencies.
“For an individual or family who does not have a roof over their head, providing them with a home — a safe place to sleep and play, can mean all the difference in the world,” said Jean Lilley, Executive Director for Hawaii Habitat for Humanity Association. “Our annual Build-a-Thon raises awareness for the work we do to put these families into homes and shows the community how their gift can go a long way in creating a home for our island ohana. The Build-a-Thon may only happen once a year, but the funds we raise during the event support our affiliates throughout the year to help families in need achieve homeownership.”
Volunteers are asked to donate or raise at least $100 to participate in the Build-a-Thon and will be provided with refreshments and a commemorative shirt for their participation. Kauai Habitat for Humanity will be building the home of Vern Kauanui in Anahola.
There are still several spots on the build crew available for Saturday and Sunday.
