LIHUE — Wendell Soriano scored eight points to lead the Hanakila, Division 4 students in grades 4 and 5, to a 33-6 win over the Kaulupono boys team Wednesday night at the Kauai High School gym.
This was the first weekday outing for the young division in the Kaulupono Summer Basketball league and the youngsters mixed it up with Division 3 players in a triple bill.
Kawai Apana finished with five points in the Hanakila win with Jeff, Kandell and Tanner coming up with pairs in the second half for the Kaulupono squad.
Chyna Fernandez, Ashlyn Agena and Raelee Samio coughed up second-half buckets for the Westside, Division 3 girls, to outscore the Kauai Ballers 10-8.
But the effort came up short against a 12-4 halftime deficit and the Ballers took a 20-14 win into the locker room led by Jaliyah Casem and Angelica Cudiamat netting 10 and eight points respectively.
Momilani Martins topped the Westside scoring on four points followed by Taylor Montemayor, Cori Burton, Fernandez, Agena and Samio dropping a bucket each.
Noah Thompson dropped in 11 points to lead Papalina, Division 2, players in grades 8 and 9, to a 34-24 win over Team Lihue, which got nine points each from Christian Manera and Edgar Tolentino.
