LIHUE — A 12-year-old boy was apparently injured late Monday afternoon after he was pinned between two cars at Kukui Grove parking lot fronting Longs Drug.
Medics responded to the shopping center at 4:15 p.m. when a caller said a boy was pinned between two vehicles, and was on the road, conscious and breathing.
Bill and Barbara Koppenhaver of New Mexico were walking at the mall when they heard someone yell, “Hey! Wait, wait, wait!” When they turned and looked there was a Jeep SUV and a Chevrolet pickup truck side-by-side in a parking lane fronting Longs Drug.
“The boy’s mother and several other people came running across the mall area to the parking lot,” Barbara said.
“They got the boy out of there and put him on the ground,” Bill said. “We couldn’t tell from here if he was OK.”
The couple saw the boy put on a stretcher. They could see that his knee and lower leg were wrapped in bandages or braces.
The boy’s condition was not available late Monday.
