KAPAA — An Eastside paint store has convenience in mind for homeowners and contractors who would otherwise drive to Lihue.
Sherwin Williams opened its second island location in the Waipouli Shopping Center at 4-771 Kuhio Highway, Ste 113. It has been open for a few weeks but will hold a grand opening July 1 for professional builders; followed by an Aug. 9 grand opening to celebrate all the weekend warrior handymen and women.
It’s the second Sherwin Williams store on Kauai. The Puhi store opened about six years ago.
“The new store is in a good location,” said store manager Waylen Sadang. “It is centralized and right near the road, as opposed to the Puhi store that is very far back in the industrial park.”
Sadang is a 2004 graduate of Kauai High School and then studied at the University of Hawaii. He went to a career fair after graduation and said Sherwin Williams presented him with a great opportunity.
The Kapaa store is Sadang’s third management position and he receives annual trainings in Dallas. He said the move back to Kauai was in part to have someone in place who knew the culture and was familiar with the community.
“It has to be a good fit and my boss thought it would be a good idea to have a local person from Kauai come down here,” Sadang added. “It’s weird how all of the different islands all have such different cultures.”
The new store is staffed with four other employees from the Puhi store. The experience transfers to the new store and Sadang is happy to hit the ground running.
“People come to us for good paint and good customer service,” Sadong said.
Store hours are Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
