Fred Peel said his daughter, Lara Yamada of KITV, did not believe him so he went and counted the people waiting in the two lines, Friday during the Kauai Island Utility Cooperative Light Emitting Diode lightbulb distribution.
Ed Nakaya said they learned from last month’s event and had everything pre-packed which meant the two lines (Fred said there were at least 350 people waiting) went through in about 20 minutes after the 6 p.m. opening.
Kathy Williams, KIUC energy services supervisor, said they packed nearly 1,200 packages after the June distribution had nearly 1,000 going through the 90-minute giveaway.
Wayne Fujioka (the Lihue Hongwanji bon dance is Aug. 1 and 2 in Kapaia), Jimmy Oyadomori, Melissa Gregory (walk-in early voting starts this week), and Daniel Momohara were among those waiting in line, and even Betty Ihara came in from Kalaheo for the free LED lamps.
If you missed this one (Daniel even missed the annual meeting), the final distribution is on Aug. 22 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Kukui Grove Center.
