Lorena Lisa Nanod
Lorena Lisa Nanod of Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii passed away at her home in Maui on July 31, 2014 at the age of 58. Born on February 18, 1956 in Lihue, Kauai. She was a retail sales representative for the Grand Wailea.
Preceded in death by her father, Menelio Lastimoza, brother, Chad Lastimosa.
She is survived by her husband, Lance Nanod, son, Jarrett Nanod, mother, Teodocia Lopez Lastimoza, brothers, Lorenzo “Larry”, Benjamin “Benny”, Timothy “Timmy”, Melchior “Mel” Lastimosa, sisters, Melissa Hedges, Linnea and Meda Lastimosa.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday August 23, 2014 at Nakamura Mortuary. Visitation at 9:30 AM, Service at 10:00 AM, Inurnment to follow at 2:00 PM at Maui Memorial Park.

William Curammeng Sr.
William “Bill” L. Curammeng Sr. of Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii passed away on August 11, 2014 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 81. Born on February 8, 1933 in Koloa, Kauai. He was a Retired teacher at Wilcox Elementary School.
Preceded in death by his parents, Marcos & Ana Curammeng, sister, Leonora Albayalde, brother, Alfredo Curammeng.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Curammeng, sons, William Curammeng Jr. (Tess), Joseph Curammeng, Duane (Janice) Curammeng, Glenn (Lelyn) Curammeng, Darren (Michelle) Curammeng
daughters, Joycelyn (Jason) Iwata, Janice (Dean) Russell, 19 grandchildren & 2 great grandchildren. Numerous nieces & nephews & cousins & friends.
Friends may visit the family on Saturday September 6, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Church, Lihue.
Visitation 8:00 – 9:30 AM, Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Burial to follow at Kauai Veteran’s Cemetery, Hanapepe. No flowers requested and Aloha/casual attire is suggested.

Lyle Martell
Lyle Glenn Martell of Kekaha died on August 10, 2014 at his residence at the age of 71. Born on September 26, 1942 in Milbank, South Dakota, he retired as an Art Teacher with the State of Hawaii.
He is survived by his son, Lance G. Martell of Waimea, daughter, Nathalie J. Martell of Kekaha, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Private services were held for the family.

Francisca Santos
Francisca Pascual Santos of Koloa, passed away peacefully at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on August 5, 2014 at the age of 102. She was born on March 7, 1912 in Laoag, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. She lived a long, active, happy, and grace-filled life. She treasured her family and received special joy from her grandchildren. She was a member of various organizations including the Filipino Catholic Club, University of Hawaii Extension Club and Koloa Senior Center and also volunteered to help in the Koloa School reading program.
Preceded in death by her husband Ruperto A. Santos, infant son Ruperto Santos, Jr., 2 grandsons Roberto Santos, Jr., Richard Santos, Jr., parents Posedio and Patricia Labuguen Pascual, 4 brothers, and 3 sisters.

Cheryl Lovell-Obatake
Cheryl Mary Ululani Lovell-Obatake of Nawiliwili, Kauai passed away on August 1, 2014 at the age of 60. Born on March 5, 1954 in Waimea, Kauai. She was a cultural monitor with a love for land, water and culture.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Ida Lovell, and brother Leslie Lovell.
She is survived by her husband James Obatake Jr., daughter, Maureen “Kanani” (Albert) Lovell-Obatake, son, Leslie (Brandee) Lovell-Obatake, stepmother, Beverly Manner, sister Puanani Holt, and stepsister Karen Manner. Grandchildren, Keana, Lanakila, Nakoa, Kamalewa, and Maka`ala. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Nawiliwili Beach Park, 4 p.m. The family request casual attire.
John Saiki, M.D.
John Harris Saiki, M.D., known as “Jack” to many, peacefully passed away at home on August 8, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. He will forever be in the hearts of his wife Julie; his three children, Beth, Bill and Catherine; his beloved grandchildren, Anna Priya Gupte, Anand Gupte and Alexander Saiki; son-in-law Viru Gupte and daughter-in-law Jocelyn Saiki; and his brother George and extended family.
Jack was born on December 31, 1936 in Grand Forks, North Dakota to Lydia Elizabeth Kuoppala and Arthur Kazu Saiki, M.D. Jack’s father was born and raised in Kauai; his grandparents immigrated from Japan to Kauai in the late 1800s. Jack spent most of his childhood in Grand Forks and three formative years in Kauai. Jack received his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science from the University of North Dakota. He graduated from medical school at McGill University in Montreal, Canada in 1961. It was there that he met his future wife, Julie Singleton. Jack served two years with the United States Public Health Service in Fort Defiance, Arizona. He completed his residency and fellowship training in medicine and hematology at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and his oncology training at the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
Jack was Professor Emeritus at the University of New Mexico Department of Medicine, Hematology/Oncology Division. His career on faculty spanned forty-four years; it can be said he lived the history of modern day oncology. Jack joined the faculty at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in 1970. With the support of a grant from the federally funded New Mexico Regional Medical Program, Jack developed a leukemia-lymphoma treatment program, at a time when no formal medical oncology program existed in New Mexico. He was also awarded funding from the National Institutes of Health in support of his membership in the Southwest Oncology Group, which ushered in cancer clinical trials and new cancer treatments for New Mexicans. In 1973, Jack received board certification in medical oncology, the year the subspecialty of medical oncology was first created.
Jack served in various capacities while on the faculty, including Clinical Director of the University of New Mexico Cancer Center and Principal Investigator for the Southwest Oncology Group. In addition, Jack served on the Board of Trustees for Blood Systems for twenty-nine years and was Medical Director of the Presbyterian Hospice Program. Jack was the recipient of numerous awards for teaching and service, including the Laureate Award by the New Mexico Chapter of the American College of Physicians and nine Khatali Awards, an honor bestowed by each graduating class of the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in recognition of teaching excellence. Throughout his career, Jack loved teaching but patient care was foremost in his heart. Jack was beloved for his humility, compassion, integrity and dedication.
Jack and his wife of fifty-two years, Julie, shared a mutual love of the Southwest, hiking, birding, identifying wildflowers and enjoying the tranquility of the Taos mountains. He was deeply loved and admired by his three children. He encouraged them to carve out their own unique paths and, importantly, to appreciate the journey. He was a beloved granddad. With his playful spirit and love of teaching, he spent endless hours with his grandchildren on projects fostering their love of science and nature. Jack’s curiosity and appreciation of life included photography, tennis, geology, woodworking, taking up the banjo at age forty, and driving his ‘66 Volvo. His gift for storytelling, endearing sense of humor, and gentle nature remained ever-present to the end. While it is impossibly difficult to let him go, we know he made an indelible difference in the lives of many people and that his teachings will carry forward through his family, friends, patients, students and colleagues. We celebrate Jack and his life well lived.

Fusako Shido
Fusako Hashimoto Shido of Kapaa/Kalaheo passed away on August 12, 2014 at home at age 97. Born on July 26, 1917 in Honolulu, she was a retired Proprietor of Shido’s store in Kapaa.
Preceded in death by her husband, Kaname Shido.
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey (Faith) Shido of Oahu and their children- Tiffany (Eric) Navarro of California and their three children, and Summer Shido of Honolulu; daughter, Merrily (Gary) Hall of Kalaheo and their children, Jonathan K. Hall and Stacie M. Hall, both of Las Vegas, Nevada; brother, Walter (Betty) Hashimoto and their daughter Annemarie Hashimoto of Oahu; sister, Margaret (Herbert) Tom of Oahu and their sons- Spencer Tom of Washington and Randall Tom of Oahu; nephew, Dr. Robert Toda of Vermont, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held.

Percival Bailey Jr.
Percival Dee Bailey Jr. of Hanamaulu, Kauai, Hawaii, Passed away on August 12, 2014 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 96. Born on June 14, 1918 in Endicott, New York. He was a pilot in The United States Air Corps.
Preceded in death by his parents, Percival and Louella Bailey Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa Negrillo Bailey, Hanamaulu; daughters, Jean (Dick) Zimmerman, Texas, Ann Jennings, California; son, Harry Russel (Jean) Bailey, North Carolina. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Consuelo Bueno Dela Cruz of Kaumakani, Kauai passed away on August 6, 2014 at the age of 87. Born on April 29, 1927 in Paoay Ilocos Norte, Philippines. She was a social worker for Elderly Affairs and a seamstress.
Preceded in death by her parents, Claudio & Susana Bueno, sister, Cleta Puyaoan, brother, Gregorio Bueno.

Herbert Case
Herbert Brewster Case of Poipu passed away on July 31, 2014 at the age of 92. Born on August 9, 1921 in Hollywood California, he was a U.S. Merchant Marine Veterans of WWII. Retired from Civil Service and worked at Port Allen on Navy retrieval boats.
He is survived by his sons, Jeff Case of Hilo and Gary Case of Poipu. Grandchildren, Maile Lambeth of Honolulu & Tia Anthony Case of Hilo. 4 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014 10:00 a.m. at Poipu Beach Park.
Kyson Contrades
Kyson Kaleo “Smackey” Contrades of Anahola died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 20 on August 6, 2014. Born on January 6, 1994 in Lihue, he was a student at KCC for Auto body and fender.
Preceded in death by his grandfather Jose Raposas, great-grandfather Cirilio Raposas.
He is survived by his parents, Kamaka & Shelley Contrades, brothers, Kyle Contrades and Kameron “Kaipo” Contrades, grandparents Yon Han Raposas, Frank “Mano” Contrades, Kuini Contrades, and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai from 8:30 to 10:00 am.
