POIPU – A United States Coast Guard team recovered what is believed to be the body of a scuba diver who went missing early this morning.
The search, which was conducted by USCG and the Kauai Fire Department, began around 1:35 this morning. It involved a coast guard helicopter and cutter, along with a KFD search boat and shoreline search team.
The man’s body was found floating face down roughly one mile offshore of Brennecke’s beach. The victim was brought to shore by the coast guard vessel.
The Kauai Police Department is responding to the scene to identify the victim and to notify next of kin.
The missing man was diving with two other men last night off of Koloa Landing when his companions reported that he was unaccounted for. Responding fire personnel discovered his dive light in shallow shoreline waters.
