The Hawaii Meth Project is warning the public about impersonators claiming to represent the Maui Police Department, who are soliciting cash contributions over the phone purportedly for the “Meth Project.”
This is the second case of unsolicited donations naming the HMP as the recipient, with a similar incident reported in December 2013. No cases were reported of impersonators working on Kauai.
HMP representatives advise against making unsolicited requests over the phone or at residences and places of business. Anyone who is approached and asked to provide a cash donation to the Meth Project or the Hawaii Meth Project is encouraged to politely decline and report the incident to local police.
