Gary “Black” Miyashiro of Wailua has done it again.
Through the contributions of the Miyashiro family’s friends and businesses, the Broke Da ALS Team, led by Gary, was named the top fundraising team with more than $15,000 in the second Hawaii Walk to Defeat ALS on Saturday at Kapiolani Park.
“We want to let people on Kauai and elsewhere know that monies from this Hawaii Walk to Defeat ALS, as well as the ice bucket challenges in Hawaii, will be used to bring unprecedented on-the-ground services to the persons with ALS on all the islands,” said Joanne Fujio, Kauai ALS Association ohana.
Money raised will go toward hiring an ALS care manager.
Fujio, Miyashiro’s wife, is working with the ALS Association Golden West Chapter and the mayor’s office on Kauai to establish ALS clinics on the islands.
