LIHUE — The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency is conducting siren testing with the Statewide Outdoor Siren Warning System on Kauai this week.
HEMA, formerly known as State Civil Defense, started testing on Wednesday to check the public address system with short blasts known as “burps.” Technicians are testing to ensure that recent work on these sirens was completed properly and expect to wrap things up today.
The test involves a siren sound from 30 seconds to one-minute intervals and reoccurs six to eight times during the identified timeframe.
