The 1964 Kauai High School graduating class is giving back to Kauai.
During their 50th reunion, which is happening this week, Sylvia Taba Koshi, Blondie Brooksher, Wanda Goodwin, Glenda Hamamoto Heuler and Lydia Gushiken Sone donated a few hours to the Hawaii Foodbank – Kauai Branch on Thursday to bag 2,000 pounds of tuna, vienna sausage, sardines, corned beef and Spam.
Taba Koshi said the reunion began Wednesday. It included bowling, sunset tours and dinners. Giving back, Taba Koshi said, was important to the reuniting classmates.
Many homeless folks are working people and productive citizens who can’t afford to pay rent and feed themselves or their families, she said.
“Even though some of us do not live here anymore, many of our family and friends still do and that’s what Kauai people do – we give back. We are having fun but we want to help others,” she said.
The idea to do a service project came from Wayne Fujioka.
Taba Koshi said Kalaheo Missionary Church relies on Hawaii Foodbank – Kauai Branch to fulfill their canned and case food needs for their Snack Packs for the children.
