LIHUE — A former police officer and DLNR enforcement manager has been indicted on 30 counts of sexual assault.
Tarey William Kahana Low, 53, of Kapaa, was arrested on Oct. 10 and charged with 26 counts of first-degree sexual assault, forcible rape and four counts of third-degree sexual assault.
A 5th Circuit grand jury indicted Low of the charges on Oct. 9.
The indictment charges Low with subjecting a female to several acts of sexual penetration by strong compulsion from June 29, 2007, through March 31, 2010. Thirteen of the first-degree charges occurred while the victim was under the age of 18, according to the indictment.
Low was released on $500,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in 5th Circuit Court before Judge Kathleen Watanabe on Tuesday.
Low is a former branch chief for the state Department of Land and Natural Resource’s Division of Conservation and Resource Enforcement.
