Word on Kauai-based Akamai Juice Company is making the Hollywood rounds.
The company’s owner, Caryll Schwabe, knows she’s made some nice contacts out in the southern California world, which is good for biz.
But as far as how her brand is spreading there, she’s not quite sure.
“I have no idea how they found me,” Schwabe said about the invite she received out of the blue to set up her juice shop at the Emmy Awards gifting suite in August, where stars and agents peruse the private event in search of new, innovative products. “It never came up and I never asked.”
Perhaps Matthew McConaughey or Woody Harrelson dropped word. Or anyone on the set of True Detective for that matter. Schwabe fed and hydrated the set while it filmed season 1 of the HBO drama in New Orleans from Jan. 12 to March 9.
“Woody is all about nutrition and health,” Schwabe said of the organic, raw vegan eater, who did a two-and-half-week juice cleanse on AKC product. she said the juice diet flushes out a person’s system, making them feel energetic and light afterward.
“Matthew was more focused on his weight, as he was just coming off of Dallas Buyers Club, where he lost ridiculous amounts,” she said.
Harrelson, Schwabe said, tried her juice when she was working for a mutual acquaintance caterer in Los Angeles awhile ago. The actors and staff never acted uppity-uppity to the Kilauea woman, not even in the sweltering southern humidity which required Schwabe to alter her juices to the light, springy kind over thicker vegetable-based ones.
Now that the Emmy show is over, where she rubbed elbows with Hawaii-raised world class martial artist and actor TJ Hooker, Schwabe will take her juice to the American Music Awards Nov. 23 in L.A. She was also invited to the Teen Choice, Country Music and Grammy Awards for their award show gifting suites next year.
That’s one way to get a name out there.
“We can’t wait to share our next adventure,” she said.
