The County of Kauai is performing an assessment on the feasibility of using locally produced food waste to generate renewable natural gas that could be used to fuel The Kauai Bus and other county vehicles.
For this effort, the county is conducting a survey to determine the amount of food waste produced by local food service establishments and grocers.
Restaurants, schools, hospitals and grocers are encouraged to take the survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/86DYP3J.
The results of this assessment may also lead to projects that could reduce waste disposal fees, reduce dependence on imported fuels, extend the lifespan of the current landfill, as well as help the environment.
For more information or to take the survey by phone, contact Allison Fraley at afraley@kauai.gov or 241-4837 or Ben Sullivan at bsullivan@kauai.gov or 241-4955.
