LIHUE — A Koloa man pleaded no contest in a negligent injury case involving a motor vehicle Monday in 5th Circuit Court.
Robert Gaor Dela Cruz, 34, was arrested on Feb. 14, 2013, on a charge of first-degree negligent injury. The charge was for causing serious bodily injury to Danny Smith by the operation of a vehicle in a negligent manner.
By the time the case came to circuit court via felony information on Dec. 20, 2013, additional charges of inattention to driving, possession of methamphetamine and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia were added to the criminal complaint.
Judge Kathleen Watanabe presided as Dela Cruz pleaded. The state agrees to dismiss charges of inattention to driving, meth and drug paraphernalia in exchange for the no-contest plea to the higher charge.
Dela Cruz remains out of custody on $3,100 bail/bond. Sentencing is set for Jan. 7.
