LIHUE — Today is the final day of the year for used book sales at the Lihue Public Library.
Joy Kouchi, vice president of the Friends of the Lihue Public Library, was among the volunteers replenishing stock and sorting through titles for the “free” table set up outside the library conference room, which housed the October blowout used book sale. Doors are open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“There are lots of things here which are no longer in print, and I find things to add to my collection,” said Regina O’Rourke of Kapaa. “I also find a lot of things for my kids and grandkids.”
In addition to books, shoppers can browse through used DVDs and CDs, with proceeds supporting library programs and services. Material for the used book sale comes from donations and books removed from the library’s shelves to make room for new books.
“These are wonderful books,” said Dorene Sautner of Puhi, a volunteer. “I spend two days a week inside the library sorting books and the girls (from the Friends) come in three times a year to sell these titles.”
Judy Anama said she tries to make it to all of the Friends used book sales.
“There’re always lots to choose from,” she said. “Unfortunately, I only got two, or three books today because my husband wants books on the Vietnam War to add to his collection, and there weren’t that many.”
