LIHUE — Police are seeking the driver of a vehicle involved in a fatal traffic accident Tuesday morning.
According to the Kauai Police Department, the crash occurred about 6:15 a.m. A 60-year-old woman was crossing the marked crosswalk fronting the Lihue Post Office when she was hit by a westbound Toyota Tacoma. The male driver stopped to render aid when a second vehicle, traveling west, also struck the pedestrian and left the scene.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have not released her identity. Rice Street was closed until police completed their site investigation about 8:50 a.m.
Police are seeking a full-sized, dark-colored SUV and are asking anyone with information to contact Officer Himongala of KPD’s Traffic Safety Section at 241-1617 or the Kauai Police Dispatch line at 241-1711.
This is the seventh traffic related fatality in 2014 on Kauai.
