Another side of being homeless
I am a homeless Hawaii State DOE teacher, educated with 25 years of experience with at-risk youth. I lost my teaching position after a very near fatal accident that left long-term disabilities. I did work, the first year back, while severely crippled. However, a principal decided not to let me stay on after that year. Of course, this is illegal and I do have long-term Honolulu attorneys.
Come down to the area by Calvary Chapel to see who is homeless there, men and women. Others stay by the YWCA or try to hide by Elua Street State Building. In general, no homeless are arrested or ticketed unless they refuse to move or keep returning, or are criminally trespassing. Kauai County, churches and social services are not helping the homeless at all. Many homeless like myself have worked long term in Hawaii and paid high rents and taxes.
The Garden Island has made the public aware of some of the very unfair treatment of the homeless. However, more needs to be done. I am hoping you will choose to hear our side of the homeless battle.

Let the folks on Kauai step back and watch what the initiative on Maui does before the rants and raves start up again.
That will be a very open case as to any effects that become evident on Maui. It also showed what can happen when those without an economic stake rule over those tied to the targeted entity. So far on Kauai, the antis have been a bit in error two or three times.
1. Superferry gonna bring more drugs and mongoose to Kauai; about two weeks after it was killed, there was a very big drug bust out Anahola way, I think; and
2. The mongoose got here on a Young Brothers barge?
This pesticide bill is passed and about five cases of pesticide odor are reported, but not one linked to big ag. Chemical companies’ activities? The culprits were all homeowner misuse of a pesticide.
So, let’s cool our heads and watch Maui carefully.
