LIHUE — CVS Longs Drugs will open the doors to its new location in Waipouli on Sunday.
Among the many upgrades customers can look forward to at the 23,200-square-foot retail store is the island’s first drive-through pharmacy.
“That will be a big win,” Longs Drugs District Manager Tanya Verdis said.
The store relocated from a leased retail space just down the highway at Kauai Village Shopping Center to the area fronting Courtyard by Marriott Kauai at Coconut Beach, at the intersection of Kuhio Highway and Aleka Loop.
In addition to the drive-through pharmacy, Verdis said customers can look forward to a better selection of products, a 97-stall parking lot, easier shopping and a cleaner atmosphere.
It is unclear at this point if there will be a need to hire additional employees at the new location.
“It’s going to depend on what the sales do,” said Verdis, adding that being on that side of the highway may drive business, especially among visitors.
An opening ceremony and blessing is scheduled for 7 a.m. Sunday.
The store will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.
