Justin “Pono” Tokioka fired a 3-under par 68 to improve to a tie for fifth place Sunday during the final round of the Kaanapali Collegiate Classic at the Kaanapali Golf Course.
Tokioka, who fired an identical 68 on the opening round of the tournament, shot a 1-over 72 Saturday over the 6,700-yard course. His 54-hole total, 5-under 208, tied with Lee McCoy of Georgia (66-74-68-208) and was a stroke better than Joey Petronio (63-76-70-209) of North Florida.
With his three-day 208, Tokioka leads the field of eight individualists, and posted the best score for the University of Hawaii golfers, followed by Skye Inakoshi who ended the tournament with a 217 (69-73-75).
Aaron Wise of Oregon, firing a 6-under 65 Sunday, ended in a tie for overall honors with MJ Maguire of North Florida with a three-day 203, Maguire firing a 4-under 67 Sunday.
Wise, joined by Brandon McIver (3rd-205) and Jonathan Woo (4th-206), led Oregon to the team title with an 819 followed by North Florida at 843. Host Hawaii, led by Inakoshi, finished in 11th place with an 888.
