LIHUE — A Koloa man who pleaded no contest to drug and resisting arrest charges will face at least 20 months of a five-year prison term when he is sentenced in 5th Circuit Court next February.
Christian Michael Nigg, 21, was in court Thursday to change his plea to no contest in a global plea agreement that will resolve several separate cases with the one felony and one misdemeanor conviction.
By pleading to felony methamphetamine possession, Nigg agreed to serve a mandatory minimum sentence of one year and eight months of a five-year prison term. He also pleaded to resisting arrest, a misdemeanor charge that carries a possible one-year jail term.
County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Melinda Mendes said police found methamphetamine on Nigg while arresting him on other charges. He was also charged with resisting arrest.
Nigg will face another possible prison term with a pending motion for revocation of his probation in another felony matter. According to Mendes in court, Nigg pleaded no contest to second-degree robbery and theft, and received a five-year probation with six months jail on Sept. 12, 2013.
A revocation motion in the first case was filed after Nigg pleaded no contest to the new charges. The sentences would run concurrent per the plea agreement.
State Deputy Public Defender Samuel Jajich represented Nigg, who has been held at Kauai Community Corrections Center since his arrest on July 25.
Chief Judge Randal Valenciano scheduled the sentencing hearing for Feb. 5.
