Last Christmas, I came to realize a very important fact about my sister: she’s a remarkable liar. About a week or two before the holiday, she and I were sitting in the car at Walmart and I noticed she had the fifth season of our favorite TV series “The Big Bang Theory” in her car. Excitement uncoiled within me like a spring as I saw the case, and I instantly picked up the DVD.

“I was about to return that,” my sister said nonchalantly, “something’s wrong with the disk.”
“Can I have this!?” I asked, not even paying the least amount of attention or care to her words. I could see her eyebrows furrow as she looked at me, almost as if irritated.
“You gonna pay for it?” she asked with demand in her voice. I was shocked at first. Normally, my sister wasn’t this annoyed by my questions before.
I looked at her disappointed and whispered, “No.”
“Then put it down,” she said.
I was disheartened by her words and set the DVD back between the chairs, but after she and I stepped into Walmart with her I gave little thought about the series.
Weeks passed and Christmas morning came. Despite being 22 years old, I woke up overjoyed and excited. I raced down the hallway with a giant smile on my face and eagerly sat by the Christmas tree waiting for everyone else to awaken. I also enthusiastically dipped my head down by the tree to see how many presents were for me.
There was one in particular that caught my attention: a thin box wrapped in blue and red paper with the words “to Averie, from Angela.” I set the box back under the tree wondering what it held, but as my parents and sister wandered into the living room I became distracted.
As my parents and sister opened their presents I was handed Angela’s gift. I ripped off the wrapping paper and as soon as I saw what lay beneath it, I couldn’t stop laughing.
There, in my hands, was “The Big Bang Theory: Season 5.”
I looked over at my sister and she was laughing hysterically.
“You lied to me!” I shouted while still laughing.
“They don’t call me an actress for nothing,” she said.
This was one of my most memorable Christmases. But now that Christmas has come around again, it’s time for a little payback.
