Mahalo to Nora Villanueva (too bad the New Year’s Baby was at the beach) for the reminders about the annual Rizal Day services Sunday, celebrating the 108th anniversary of the Philippines’ national hero’s death.
Dr. Addison Bulosan, delivering one of Rizal’s poems and quotes, “Letters to his friend, parents, and brother,” during the service, said he was aware that Dr. Rizal was a Shriner’s 33rd degree recipient (mahalo to Shriner John Gill for that tidbit) since Bulosan is a member of the Shriners.
Edmud Villanueva was able to attend both the services as well as greet Gov. David Ige who made his first visit to Kauai since being elected governor. That meant not being able to get to the Kauai Filipino Community Council’s Christmas party at the convention hall.
Kaleo Carvalho made sure Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. was able to do both services as well, and mahalo to Pauline Ibia for the heads up and ono grinds.
Happy New Year, Kauai! Be safe on the roads and with the fireworks!
