KOKEE — Hui o Laka, the nonprofit that operates Kokee Natural History Museum and the CCC Camp, introduced its new director, Christine Faye.
Faye brings many talents and experiences that the 60-year-old organization sought to move forward. She is a museum professional, historian, designer, grant writer, business owner and a creator of visitor experiences.
“Chris has both her heart and family roots in Kokee and will further our vision of connecting people with the spirit of our mountains,” said Hui o Laka trustee Kay Koike at the annual members meeting on Saturday.
Most recently the curator at Kauai Museum, Faye earlier developed plantation tours and a visitor center with exhibits and a gift shop for Gay & Robinson. Both positions provided successful experience collaborating with volunteers, staff, donors and community partners. Faye also has served with many local initiatives, such as the Waimea Sugar Mill walking tour, Waimea Town Celebration and the King Kaumuali‘i Statue Committee.
“For over half a century, Hui o Laka has created a firm foundation for interpreting the natural wonders of the Kokee area,” Faye said. “I look forward to refreshing the museum and interpretive experiences as we move forward.”
