PUHI — Monday more than two dozen soccer players 14 years old and under had fun at the soccer clinic hosted by Scandia coach Brad Jordan at the Grove Farm Park in Puhi.
Originally scheduled to start last week, the clinic was delayed due to Jordan’s being snowed-in in Colorado, said Kauai Soccer Association commissioner Kevin Devitt.
Jordan expressed his regrets over the delay, extending the clinic through Wednesday. Additionally, at the request of a parent, Les Drent, he hosted a special clinic on Saturday at the Kapahi Park for at least two dozen soccer players.
“The talent keeps getting better every year,” said Jordan, who appeared on Kauai for clinics previously. “As more youngsters get to play, the talent keeps getting better.”
He said one of the goals for hosting the tournaments is to look for talent for the Scandia teams which travel to Europe to participate in some of the world’s largest tournaments, including the Gothia Cup in Sweden.
“Last year, the Girls Under 14 team set a new standard for us,” Jordan said. “They were undefeated through most of the trip and ended as A Bracket champions. We’re always looking for people who want to better their game by participating in these European tours. We actively encourage players, especially on the neighbor islands, to find out how they can get better.”
The Scandia website says the program is seeking girls between 11-17 years old and boys between 12-15 years old.
The clinic wraps up Wednesday at the Grove Farm Park in Puhi.
