Dwayne Kusaka
Dwayne “Boogie” Kusaka passed away on January 5, 2015 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 55. Born on August 30, 1959 in Lihue Kauai, he was a loving father, an avid fisherman, a great roofer, a loyal friend and a graduate of Kauai High School.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Jose and Lilly Estacio, and paternal grandparents Robert and Masaji Kusaka.
He is survived by his fiancé, Jamelyn Padre, 3 children, Jaylynn, Dwayne, and Jayde; parents Yuki and Fely Kusaka, sister Norine, brother and best friend Royden (Weena) and niece Taylor. James and Deborah Padre, Uncles, Charles (Maryanne) and Henry (Lynn), Aunts, Helen Teramoto, Katherine (Lamont) Shadowens, Dorothy Kikuta, Chieko (Harry) Ehara, several cousins, and close family friends, Val Nagano, Marianelle Hawelu, Randolph and Caleb Jimenez.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, January 30, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with visitation at 8:30 and Mass at 10:00 A.M.
Samson Leones
Samson B. Leones of Puhi, Kauai passed away on January 10, 2015 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 85, born on July 7, 1929 in the Philippines. He was a Retired Laborer from Lihue Plantation.
He was preceded in death by his two daughters, Marylou Espacio, Magdalena Idaya, two sons, Samson Leones, Jr. & Saturnino Leones.
He is survived by his wife: Leonida Leones, 3 Daughters: Marelin (James) Barns, Vicky (Anthony) Reyes, Teresa Leones; 1 Son: Darwin Leones, 11 Grandchildren, 15 Great grandchildren, 2 Sisters: Maria Astrologio, Eusebia Silva, numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday January 23, 2015 at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Again on Saturday January 24, 2015 at St. Raphael’s Church in Koloa from 8:00 am to 9:45 am. Where mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Burial to follow at St. Raphaels’s Church Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Mabel Char
Mabel Puanani Char of Waimea, passed away at KVMH on January 11, 2015 at the age of 87.
Born on June 6, 1927, in Lihue, Kauai, she was an entertainer with Smith’s Boat.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Barnie K. Char; five brothers, Abraham Akuna, Daniel Akuna, George Malaia, Bernard Malaia, and Kenneth Malaia; and sister, Rusty Peters.
She is survived by her three sons, Russell (Marilyn) Char of Poipu, Rawlins (Mila) Char of Kekaha, and Barnie K. (Joy Grindley) Char of Hauula; five daughters, Jackie (Mark) Gray of West Jordan, Utah, Eula Mae (Tama) Taala of Waimea, Apryle Wong of Laie, Sue Ann (Mark) Texeira of Hanapepe, and Cheryle Anne (Danny) Woolsey of Colorado; 29 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brother, Gordon”Lani” Akuna of Honolulu; three sisters, Lillian Park of Georgia, Elsie Kali of Las Vegas, and Beverly Kahaleoumi of Kauai; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 9AM at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints (Mormon) in Kekaha. Services will be at 11AM, followed by a burial at the Kauai Veteran’s Cemetery in Hanapepe.

Nancy Kanahele
Nancy Mililani “Mama Mililani” Kaohelaulii Kanahele of Pukaiki, Niihau, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at home at the age of 78. Born on May 21, 1936 in Puuwai, Niihau, she was secretary for Hoomana Ia Iesu Iubile Church on Niihau and treasurer for Ka Hui Kula Sabati.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Kaipo Kanahele, Sr.; daughter, Ululani Kanahele.
She is survived by her sons, Kaipo (Caren) Kanahele, Jr., Kahu Enoka (Leiala) Kaohelaulii, Elia Kanahele, Nalani Kanahele, and Keaupuniokalani “Sua” Kanahele; daughters, Pualei Kaohelaulii; Dr. Ipo (Keola) Wong, Hila (Steve) Tsuchiya, and Rachel Kaohelaulii; hanai children, Mokihana Niheu-Yong, Nalei Kanahele, and Kaleohoomana Kaohelaulii; 27 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, David Kawika Kaohelaulii and Hoaonalani Kaohelaulii; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai at 9AM. Services will begin at 11AM with burial to follow at the Kekaha Hawaiian Cemetery. Lunch to follow after burial in Kekaha. Family suggests aloha attire and flowers are welcome.

Patricia McDonald
Patricia Gail McDonald of Kilauea, Hawaii, passed away at her home on January 10, 2015, at the age of 77. She was born November 26, 1937 in Giatto, West Virginia, and lived in Michigan, Georgia, Iowa, Indiana, and Hawaii. After 21 years at Indianapolis Parkview Elementary School, she taught 3rd Grade at St. Catherine School in Kapa’a for 10 years. Patricia loved life and laughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clinton and Gladys Woodring, and brother, Ronald Woodring.
She is survived by her children, Jerri Marie Sizemore, Rita McDonald, Lisa McDonald, and James McDonald; former husband, Gerald McDonald; grandchildren, Charles Sizemore, Mark Sizemore, and John Sizemore; and many great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 24, 2015, at the Wai’oli Hui’ia Church, located at 5-5363A Kuhio, Highway, Hanalei, Hawaii, 96714. Visitation at 11:30am, service at 12:00 noon, reception to follow.
