ANAHOLA – In cooperation with the U.S. Marshals Service, police officers this week assisted in the apprehension of a man who failed to report to a federal prison after being sentenced to 10 years for firearms and narcotics charges.
Akira Obatake, 33, went missing Jan. 8. Over the course of the next week, with the cooperation of community members, his whereabouts were narrowed down to the Anahola area.
An air and ground search was conducted in Anahola on Wednesday, during which Obatake was located and arrested. He was turned over to the U.S. Marshals on Friday.
“We would like to thank members of the public who assisted in the apprehension of the fugitive,” said KPD Assistant Chief Michael Contrades.
