Christy Mayfield
Christy Nalani Mayfield earned her wings on the morning of Christmas Eve (Dec. 24, 2014) at home with her family by her side. She is survived by her mom, Janet Mayfield; her dad, Jim Mayfield; her sister, Kimberley Mayfield; as well as cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. She was only 22 years old, but she lived an inspiring and full life in those short years – complete with travel adventures, love, and laughs.
Christy always said that she learned more during her junior year of high school in Chile as a part of the Rotary International Student Exchange program than in all prior 16 years of her life combined. She learned to overcome boundaries, balance freedoms with responsibilities, and made friends from across the world. Her subsequent six years were spent in a variety of locations: college classrooms, eight countries, and road-tripping across several states. She surely lived an adventure-filled life and is undoubtedly continuing those adventures in a better place now.
Her “After-Party” was on December 28, 2014 at Island School’s gymnasium. The family apologizes for the short notice that may have prevented some peoples’ attendance, but please take comfort in these notes about the party: It was a beautiful party, for a beautiful life, and a very beautiful woman. There was no black anywhere (only bright colors!) per Christy’s instructions. There were many people in attendance to give Christy the party she deserved.
Her “After-Party” was also a scrapbooking party. Christy’s family will make a scrapbook of her life and if you would like to contribute a scrapbook page of your experiences with Christy, please make it on 12×12 paper and mail it to the family’s home address (4651 Hoomana Rd., Lihue, HI, 96766).

Ray Gannett Jr.
Ray Willard Gannett Jr. of Lawai passed away at home on January 11, 2015, at the age of 94. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 12, 1920, and retired from New York Life Insurance as a sales agent.
Preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Gannett.
He is survived by his son, Michael (Tina) Gannett of Lawai; two daughters, Susan (Amadeo) Boadella and Kathy Gannett of Nevada; 3 grandchildren, Minoaka (Dallas) Stein, Michelle (Jordan) Wells, Andrew (Ciara) Gannett; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services pending.
Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Gannett family with arrangements.
Amelia Poli
Amelia Apilando Poli of Kaneohe, Hawaii passed away on December 28, 2014 at the age of 94. Born on April 3, 1920 in Koloa, Kauai she was a housekeeper at the Children’s Hospital.
She is survived by her sons, Gaylen, Baron and Elmer Garan; daughters, Josephine Koga, Shirley Crowder, Doriann Ching and Bette Poli; brother, Simeon Apilando, 20 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church from 9:30 am. To 11:45 a.m. Service will begin at 11:45 a.m. Burial to follow at the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park at 1:00 p.m. Aloha attire is suggested and only flower leis accepted. No flower sprays.
