Keith Perkins
Keith Perkins, retired partner in Rawlinson’s Laundry and Dry Cleaning in Salem and one of the founding members of Our Savior Lutheran Church in South Salem died in late December, three months before his 94th birthday on March 31.
He was the son of Walter Flavius Perkins and Alice Beckwith Perkins of Baker City. He grew up with his sisters, Shirley and Georgeanna. Keith played baritone saxophone, boxed and worked at the local drug store.
He had a natural salesman’s ability that shined through as a young man in Baker, where he sold fruits and vegetables from his mother’s garden. Keith also sold newspaper ads and worked at JC Penney in Baker prior to enlisting in the Navy in 1942.
Before leaving for the war, he married Betty Jeanne Mathews. Keith served aboard the hospital ship USS Solace as a hospital corpsman. He rose to the rank of chief prior to an honorable discharge at the end of World War II. Upon returning from service, Keith worked as a lab technician at St Elizabeth’s Hospital.
Keith moved the family to the Salem area in 1951, taking a job as a route supervisor for the Capital Journal. His next move was a job as a route salesman with Rawlinson’s Laundry. Keith moved up to management, entered into partnership with Dick Rawlinson and eventually purchased the business while partnering with Don Wiley. The business sold in 1993 and Keith retired.
Keith was one of the founding members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in South Salem. He and wife Jeanne contributed greatly to the creation of the Lutheran church eventually built on S. Cunningham. He served as the first president of the congregation, supporting the church while it met in homes and school gymnasiums. Keith remained an active member until his death.
He lived on Stanley Lane in South Salem for the last 50 years. He married the former Dorothy Bolder whom he met after the death of his first wife Jeanne in 1977. He was proud of the landscaping around his home and the meticulous care he took of his yard, shrubs and tools. Keith also loved to fish.
Keith Perkins was well known for his enthusiasm for the Salem Rotary Club. He held leadership positions and worked tirelessly recruiting young business people to the Rotary causes.
After retirement, Keith and Dorothy made many trips to the Poipu Beach of Kauai, Hawaii. Return trips to the same area resulted in close friendships.
Keith is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Georgeanna Emerson and Shirley Goodwin, and by his wife Jeanne.
Mr. Perkins in survived by Dorothy Perkins and his children; Lynn Gassner, Kim Perkins, Kay Perkins, Phyllis Leonard and Susan Pfohman. Keith lived to enjoy nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is planned on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. The family requests that any donations be made to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
Aaron Michioka
Aaron Lee Michioka passed away at Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo, Colorado of cancer at the age of 36. He was born in Lihue, HI on April 17, 1978, and left to be with our Lord on Dec. 20, 2014. He was an Inventory Control Clerk at Safeway.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents Aiyako and Isamu Michioka; grandfather Cereal Fernandez, and aunty Dolores Fernandez.
He is survived by his spouse Daryl Dario Armijo of Pueblo, Colorado; mother Sherleen Fernandez of Koloa; father Stanley Michioka of Hanapepe; in-laws Phil and Lola Armijo of Pueblo, CO; grandmother Catherine Fernandez of Koloa; and the Armijo, Fernandez and Michioka ohana.
Friends may visit with the family for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, at Poipu Beach Park main pavilion from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please wear your favorite Disney or turtles (not ninja) attire.
Arrangements and Funeral Service with cremation was done by Romero Family Funeral Home in Pueblo, Colorado.
Hsiu Hsieh
Hsiu “Sue” C. Hsieh of Lawai, Kauai, Hawaii passed away on Dec. 28, 2014, at the age of 63. Born on May 6, 1951, in Changhua, Taiwan. She was the owner of Lawai General Store.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Okumura.
She is survived by her husband, Tim Keehn, Kalaheo; ex-husband, Rickey Mc Farland; sons, Kurtis (Melody) Mc Farland, Eleele, Kevin (Lisa) Mc Farland, Texas; daughters, Julie Mc Farland, Eleele, Jennifer (Kekoa) Makaneole, Puhi, 13 grandchildren.
A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at Saint John’s Episcopal Church, Eleele.
Visitation at 9:30 a.m., Service at 10 a.m.

Lawrence Kopesky
Lawrence “Larry” W. Kopesky of Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii formerly of Poipu, passed away on Jan. 7, 2015, at the age of 78. Born on Dec. 31, 1936, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, he was a retired finance manager for Ohana Motors.
Preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Mary Kopesky; brothers, John and Juke; sisters, Mary, Elaine and Ann.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Kopesky, Lihue; son, Lawrence “Larry” (Janell) Kopesky Jr., Wainiha; daughters, Lori Kopesky, Lihue, Kelly Mazzarella, Florida; brother, Joseph (Winnie) Kopesky, Wisconsin, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren numerous nieces and nephews and cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at Saint Raphael’s Catholic Church, Koloa. Visitation 9:30 a.m., Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m.
