LIHUE — Kauai High School is accepting applications and resumes for its varsity football head coach position.
“We are looking for someone who is interested and has a passion for the game. We want them to have a positive influence on our kids, and we want someone who has the knowledge,” said Kauai High School athletic director Dino Pabre.
Former coach Tommy John Cox said prior to last season he would be resigning to focus on personal matters, but declined to elaborate. He has a 13-6 overall record, 9-3 KIF, in the two years he coached the varsity team, including an appearance in the Division II state title game in 2013, which Kauai lost to Oahu’s Kaiser, 17-7.
He was also the junior varsity coach for five years prior to being promoted to the varsity position.
“I’m definitely going to miss the kids,” Cox said. “I’m sure I’ll miss it when the next season starts.”
Pabre said he’s received interest from a few people, but won’t schedule interviews until later.
He said Cox did an outstanding job.
“He was always there for our athletes,” Pabre said. “He always had their best interests in mind. He will be sorely missed.”
