A whale watch/snorkel tour benefit for Hawaii Children’s Theatre is set for 9 a.m. Sunday with Captain Andy’s Sailing Adventures.
The trimaran boat will leave from Port Allen in Eleele for a four-hour sail. It offers a terrific opportunity to view humpback whales, enjoy the majestic scenery, hang out with friends and best of all, support HCT, the folks who brought you “The Wizard of Oz,” “Avenue Q” and “Shrek the Musical” in 2014.
Tickets are an $80 donation and support their scholarship funds. Food, drinks and hopefully lots of whale sightings will be provided. Only 49 tickets are being sold for the whale watch tour and they are going fast.
Debra Blachowiak, HCT secretary, said the tour is an important fundraiser so the theater can continue its efforts “to enrich the lives of young people, their families, and the community by addressing their unique needs through live theatre, formal education in the performing arts and high quality entertainment.”
“So we have performing arts education for Kauai youth and we also have outstanding productions for the Kauai community,” she said.
The funds raised with this whale watch tour are for tuition assistance for Summer Stars in June, the Ethan Shell Scholarship and other programs.
“We cannot run our organization with just tickets sales or we would have to triple our ticket prices and then no one could afford to come and see the plays,” she said. “This particular fundraiser is such a fun time and since the boat is donated, all participants can write off their entire ticket price.”
Anyone planning to attend is asked to check in at least a half hour early.
