HANAPEPE — Hawaii Health Connector is offering a “8 to 8, Don’t Be Late” pop-up shop to help Compact of Free Association migrants on Kauai in advance of the Feb. 15, deadline to secure health coverage in 2015.
The pop-up shop runs from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hanapepe Hawaiian Congregational Church, 3815 Hanapepe Road.
It will allow COFA migrants to learn about high quality, affordable health insurance through the Hawaii Health Connector. Feb. 15 is the final day for individuals and families to apply for health insurance in 2015.
The United States entered into Compacts of Free Association with the Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Federated States of Micronesia, resulting in the migration of residents from those nations to the United States, and often to Hawaii specifically.
Often referred to as “COFA migrants,” they are lawfully present residents/non-citizens of the United States.
