Blu Dux will perform civil rights era music in sing-along fashion and show the documentary film, “MLK: A Call to Conscience,” from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Lihue Public Library.
The one-hour film is narrated by PBS’s Tavis Smiley, and features Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “A Time to Break Silence” speech at the Riverside Church in New York City on April 14, 1967. King’s call for an end to the Vietnam War and directing resources to economic justice was immediately controversial, even among his civil rights allies.
A visual display of Hawaii’s Labor History will also be shown at the free event sponsored by Kauai Alliance for Peace and Social Justice and Kauai Peace Ohana.
