KEKAHA — It is Valentine’s Day so you must have roses, said Debbie Olores of Kekaha.
Olores created ribbon rosebuds and presented them in varying ways Saturday during the St. Theresa’s Sweetheart rummage sale in Kekaha. The fundraiser kicked off celebrations for the church’s 75th anniversary in October.
Julie Patricio had Valentine baskets with various stuffed animals, assorted sweets and other items.
“I just kind of shopped around to make the baskets,” Patricio said. “I even stopped off at the Kauai Habitat for Humanity where they had some of the cute stuffed animals.”
Jodie Agena discovered a trove of tennis rackets and balls.
“You never know what you’ll find and the bargain prices for things,” she said.
Agena, who works with Ko Bakery, said Saturday was her day off after working all week to take care of Valentine’s Day orders.
“We went through more than 300 cakes,” Agena said. “Today is my day off, but the guys are probably at the Kauai Community Market at the Kauai Community College with more Valentine’s Day offerings.”
Olores said the sale was among events the church scheduled to mark its anniversary year. “Keep an eye out for when we do the Lechon pig with all the dressings. That should be a real winner,” she said.
